This video was taken in the tower room with night vision. Orb is seen coming up the steps and into the room. Investigators had previously heard footsteps (listen to EVP) coming up the stairs (no one was there).

History: Pythian Castle, completed in 1913, is an impressive limestone, T-shaped, flat roofed, two-story structure with a full, raised basement. The late Gothic Revival style building is 121 feet wide and measures approximately 190 feet from front to back. The castle was originally built by the Knights of Pythias as an orphanage and senior citizens home for its members and their families. At that time it was called the Pythian Home of Missouri. In 1942, the US military acquired the property for use as offices and service club for recovering injured veterans from WWII. It became part of O’Reilly General Hospital.
Historically, the Pythian Home stood on a terraced knoll within a sprawling, 53-acre tract that was mostly farmland. Today this knoll is the only part of the original grand front lawn that is still associated with the property, which after years of subdividing by the General Services Administration—who acquired the property in the 1950s—has dwindled to 2.66 acres. Originally, the Pythian Home was alone on its acreage except for a power house, barn, and possibly a few other agricultural outbuildings. Today it has a lot of company. An Army Reserve complex is south, west and north of the property. The Claims: Claims of ghostly happenings include hearing male or females voices, seeing a black mass, hearing noises such as doors closing or boxes being moved with no one around or seeing an image. It has been reported that orbs have been detected in several areas of the building along with temperature changes and voices have been caught on tape. During a tour of the castle we were also told that there may have been German POWs kept in the cells in the basement. We have not found any evidence to support that claim. There are also claims that ‘German sounding’ EVPs have been captured. Our Findings: During our investigation in the summer of 2012 we did capture some photographs of orbs as well as several EVPs. Most exciting of all is that we did, in fact, see the black shadow figure in the basement. Unfortunately we did not capture that on any recording device so it is just another personal experience. We also heard the phantom footsteps on the stairs to the tower room, heard voices in the theater, and experienced cold spots. The castle is beautifully restored, the owner was very gracious and it was a comfortable hunt. |
